How does acupuncture help with neuropathy?
Acupuncture for neuropathy is a very common approach to help relieve the symptoms. If you suffer from symptoms of neuropathy, you know that the pain and numbness you experience can be nearly intolerable. Even stepping on hard or cold surfaces such as a tile floor, can feel like walking on sharp broken glass.
With neuropathy, damaged nerves in the peripheral nervous system cause tingling, burning or even numbness in the hands and feet. For my patients with neuropathy, my goal is to re-stimulate the damaged nerve fibers and prevent them from becoming inactive and dying. That’s where acupuncture can be very effective and help the stimulation of these nerves.
Depending which nerves are affected, symptoms differ with each individual. You might feel a mild numbness and tingling sensation in your feet or hands, which spreads into your arms and legs. You might feel sharp pain and be extra sensitive to touch. Muscle weakness and paralysis or bladder problems are other kinds of discomfort my patients describe.
Acupuncture for Neuropathy is excellent at restoring blood flow and stimulating the body’s nerve pathways, which in turn helps with nerve regeneration and and prevents further damage. In case of nerve damage or reduced sensation, I may target my treatment focus in local areas to stimulate the nerve fibers.
Acupuncture is an effective treatment for neuropathy, with fewer side effects than medications. By keeping the nerves active and engaged, I can help with reducing discomfort and improving my patients’ condition.
Treatment options for individual neuropathy cases vary. During your initial appointment at Bern Akupunktur, a personalized plan will be discussed to better ensure the efficacy of your acupuncture treatments.
